Holden Beach is an eight mile island that borders the Intracoastal Waterway on one side, and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. It's located about equally between Wilmington NC and North Myrtle Beach, SC. Most famous for its breeding and protection of sea turtles, this beach is one of the most popular North Carolina coastlines. Commercialism has been kept to a minimum, with less crowded beaches, few hotels or high-rise condos, and a quiet, family atmosphere instead of catering to tourism.

Homes in Holden Beach are diverse. On the beaches, you'll find raised beach houses much the same as in the past, although most of them are nearly new since hurricane damage back in the late 80's. Oceanfront and second row homes are expensive, but offer a great rental income in addition to providing a wonderful private vacation home.

 

More homes are found on the Waterway, usually with private boat docks. There are a couple of planned communities along the Waterway as well, offering elegant new homes with community amenities such as pools and clubhouses. Direct waterfront homes are always more expensive, starting in a range of the high $800,000 to more than a million range.

As you get further back from the water and coast, homes become quite affordable and present an opportunity for just about any budget to live near a beautiful coast and enjoy the lifestyle.
