The town of Ocean Isle is quite small - only 4.5 square miles, and like the other Brunswick beaches, it has a mainland separated from the island portion by the Intracoastal Waterway. The beach of Ocean Isle was renovated and restored after Hurricane Hugo in 1989, with beautiful white sand and dredging of the boat channels. It is now one of the prettiest beaches in North Carolina.

At the bridge over the Waterway is a fishing pier, boat launch, and public beach access paths are located every 500 feet. The town also has an 85 seat planetarium and a museum/aquarium. A new 58 acre park has been built on the mainland with outdoor concert area, ball parks, tennis courts, picnic areas, and walking trails. Residents enjoy several fine dining restaurants overlooking the ICW and beaches, as well as one of the best fishing piers in the Carolinas. There are several other parks and playgrounds on Ocean Isle Mainland, and a famous old lighthouse that offers tours.

Homes for sale in Ocean Isle range from the traditional beach houses rebuilt in the 90's, many condos for rentals and vacation properties, and several luxury golf course communities on the mainland, such as Ocean Ridge and Brick Landing. You'll also find a lot of inexpensive modular homes on the mainland. Prices run from the low $100,000's for the prefab homes to over a million for the fine estate homes along the Waterway or on the oceanfront.
